Sophia Website Redesign
Project Summary
Sophia Learning (Sophia.org) recently rebranded and redesigned its website to increase company revenue and improve the user experience. We wanted to achieve this by modernizing the brand, enhancing the information architecture, and promoting the free trial. The site at the time was lackluster and confusing to students and partners. The project involved 60 pages and began with empathy mapping to understand users. Collaborating with Collective Measures, a UX generalist, and content strategists, we ensured team alignment and adherence to best practices. We created journey maps, wireframes, and style tiles to translate the brand to the web. This was the first website redesign that myself and my manager were able to do on our own. Our leadership team trusted us after we had been through other agency-led redesigns.
Sophia is an affordable option to earn credit towards a college degree.
Before the Redesign
Rebranding from Hill Holiday
Translating to the Web
After presenting 3 options to my manager, we came up with this final style tile. This exercise allowed us to brainstorm styles before we committed to building an official guide.
Accessibility
We tested typography and colors for WCAG 2.0 AA compliance.
Journey Map
We’ve identified various entry points into the Sophia.org website and tied personas to them.
Navigation Wireframes
Similar to the previous design, we kept the Courses page listed first. We added primary pages that have curated information for the various personas: How it Works, Transfer Credits, and Become a Partner.
High Fidelity
Next, we built our responsive web design in desktop, tablet, and mobile.
All Courses Filter
We designed a simple was to sort horizontal course cards. These cards were informative and included the reviews, enrollments, and credits. By surfacing these details users can compare which classes were most popular and highest ranked and could sort based on that.
Course Category Page
We wanted to chunk course categories to make them easier to find and navigate to. Here is an example of a course category page with a listing of all business courses.
